Africans Americans in the Pacific west

Hello Folks I was on the internet the other day when I came across this gem of a web page called BLACK ORAL HISTORY.  This web page is a part of the University of Washington’s website. The web page contains several interviews of older black people from the Pacific West. The interviews were conducted by a gentlemen named Quintard Taylor and his associates, Charles Ramsay and John Dawkins begining in 1972. The Harlem Renaissance and Paris

Here is an Mp3 of a lecture about the connection and influence of the Harlem Rennaisance and that time period on Paris.  This lecture is given by Dr. Richard A  Long, he is a  Dr. Richard A. Long is a celebrated scholar of literature, culture, and the arts and Haygood Professor Emeritus of Interdisciplinary Studies at Emory University. I know from reading the autobiographies of Langston Hughes and ADA “Bricktop” Smith of the black entertainers (singers, dancers and Musicians) who were all of the rage during the that time period. Also many American black musicians such Sidney Bechet and Josephine Baker would move to France to live in part because the more tolerant and respectful attitude towards African American performers.

The Audio recording of “The Big Sea” Langston Hughes

I dont remember where I first learned of Langston Hughes perhaps in High-school. A couple of years later I came across his Autobiography The Big Sea. Over the last 15 years I have read and reread his autobiography and it is absolutely fantastic. So in an effort to share this very interesting tale here is the audio recording of the  The Big Sea.  

This book is not only a great read but it is also important because Langston Hughes was a champion of African American culture and weaves a fascinating tale of the Harlem Renaissance in this book.  I remember seeing a play about Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston which  was absolutely fantastic. I hope you enjoy this audio recording of The Big Sea.  I hope you enjoy this great american memoir.

Ida B. Wells

 This lady right here is one of the all stars of black history.  In fact I have a bit of a intergenerational times travelers crush on this lady right her. Ida B Wells was 1 billion percent lady and 1 billion percent women. Her investagations and writings  chronicle the tale of lynching in the American south especially.  Because of her work a very strong case can be made against the Federal Goverment for criminal neglect of the African american population citizenry.
